Individual Counseling for Adults

Relational Equine-Partnered Counseling

If you have felt reluctant to try office-based therapies or dissatisfied with the results of such approaches, our Relational Equine-Partnered Counseling (REPC) approach may be able to help! Interaction with an equine may help you feel less anxious and more open to exploring and processing what is getting in your way.

In this approach, the relationship that you form with your chosen equine will become a major component of each session. Together, you and your chosen equine may engage in a number of different interactions and activities related to your concerns and counseling goals. Although some talking is involved, this form of therapy is largely experiential - rather than simply talking about your problems, you will have the chance to explore them while in relationship with the equines in the here-and-now.

From there, you and your treatment team will explore how the experiences you have with the equines may mirror the struggles you are facing elsewhere. The equines' nonjudgmental feedback can help you gain increased awareness and insight into your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. You and your treatment team will work together to help you to gain insight and practice new life strategies while with your chosen equine that can be generalized to the rest of your life.

REPC can help you address concerns such as:
  • Sadness, depression, and other mood disorders
  • Excessive worry, anxiety, and panic disorder
  • Childhood trauma, abuse, and neglect
  • Posttraumatic stress disorder
  • Adjustment to significant life changes such as divorce, job loss, and grief
  • Relationship problems
  • Stress management, and work or school-related concerns
  • Anger issues and low frustration tolerance
  • Personal growth
