At STEPS with Horses, healing happens in the pasture — in quiet moments between a person and a horse, in the slow work of building trust, in the space that opens up when words aren't enough. On Saturday, May 23, 2026, we're inviting the community to come see it for themselves.
Meet the Herd Day is a free open house at our home on the Lena Pope North Campus in Roanoke, Texas. Whether you've been curious about equine-assisted mental health services, are looking for a meaningful outing for your family, or simply want to spend a morning with some remarkable animals, this event is for you.
What to Expect Come nose-to-nose with Belle, Bob, Donkey, Echo, Gypsy, Maggie, Mama Mia, Max, Sissy, Snoop, and Starbuck during open pasture visits. Take a guided tour of our facility, try arts and crafts with the equines, and step into our photo booth. At 10:20 am and 11:20 am, founder and licensed professional counselor Dr. Hallie Sheade will lead live program demonstrations so you can see equine-assisted therapy in action.

Meet the Herd Day is part of STEPS with Horses' participation in the national Horses for Mental Health campaign — a movement raising awareness and funds for equine-assisted mental health services across the country. Through this campaign, our team has paired with individual members of our herd to share their stories and invite our community to invest in the work — and the animals — that make healing possible. Your presence at Meet the Herd Day, and any donation you choose to make, directly supports free and low-cost services for those who need them most: veterans and military families, at-risk youth, and North Texans navigating anxiety, trauma, depression, and life transitions.
